Bill Stoeffhaas, Owner & Partner
Bill is a Chicago native who began his career with the Chicago Sun-Times and Daily News. He began his radio career in Atlanta, moving in 1980 to Tallahassee as General Manager of a newly launched radio station. His success there led to an opportunity to manage two highly rated New Orleans stations and later to Birmingham to manage WMJJ and WERC. He soon became a Group VP and took on additional responsibilities for the company’s Nashville station and the Alabama Radio Network.
In 1994, Bill became Associate Publisher of the city’s premier business periodical, the Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ). Under his leadership, the BBJ evolved from a monthly magazine to a weekly newspaper. In 1997, he helped the parent company launch the city’s first weekly alternative newspaper, Birmingham Weekly.
In 1998, Bill decided to start his own marketing and advertising firm, Creative Strategies, which later merged with STYLE Advertising in 2000. Bill and his business partner bought full controlling interest of the agency in 2003.
Bill has served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce as well as the Sales & Marketing Executives of Birmingham. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Aldridge Gardens and the American Marketing Association-Birmingham Chapter.
Outside of his professional life, Bill has donated his time and service to many non-profit efforts including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Crisis Center where he was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 2010.
Bill is a 1969 graduate of Cornell University and received his master’s degree in Radio and TV from Michigan State University in 1971.
Chuck Cargal, Owner & Partner
Chuck Cargal’s extensive career has spanned both the sales and agency side of the media business with a specialty in account management.
Chuck began his career in radio after graduating from The University of Alabama. He worked with two radio groups, specifically Capital Broadcasting, in various roles and capacities for 13 successful years of his career. During this time, Chuck earned his Certified Radio Marketing Consultant (CRMC) designation and, among many awards and honors, was chosen as one of Birmingham’s top sales /marketing consultants by the Birmingham Business Journal.
Chuck transitioned to television account management with Sinclair Broadcasting and then pursued print, helping to launch the Birmingham Weekly. During this time, Chuck and Bill Stoeffhaas formed their partnership and together decided to pursue the agency business in 1998.
Chuck is an active member of the Birmingham Advertising Federation, is a past member of the Virginia College media board and is involved with numerous local charities.
Audrey Pannell, Director of Public Relations & Social Media
Audrey Pannell currently serves as the director of public relations and social media, where she develops, coordinates and executes public relations, marketing and social media campaigns for more than 70 clients in all industry sectors. She has crafted campaigns for leading and emerging brands including Fortune 500 companies, government entities, law firms, non-profit organizations, community associations and partnerships, retail establishments and new businesses. Audrey brings an edge to client campaigns with her firm understanding of the impact of social media techniques in developing and implementing public relations and marketing campaigns.
Outside of the office, Audrey is heavily involved in the community serving as Board Member and Social Chair for the Young Professionals of Birmingham (YPBirmingham), where she plans and coordinates each monthly social event held at a local restaurant or bar and highlights nonprofits in the community. Prior to her role as Social Chair, Audrey served as Public Relations Chair for YPBirmingham for the past two years, working to promote the organization as a whole as well as its events. Audrey was also a member of the Junior Board of the Autism Society of Alabama and served as Public Relations Chair in 2011. In addition, Audrey is a member of the Rotaract Club of Birmingham and the Public Relations Society of Alabama. In 2010, Audrey was named the inaugural Miss Young Hot Birmingham Professional by YPBirmingham for her philanthropic efforts in raising more than $5,400 for the Autism Society of Alabama. Most recently, Audrey was selected as a “Birmingham’s Finest” honoree by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Alabama, of which she raised more than $6,000 for the organization.
Audrey received her Bachelor of Arts in public relations and minor in business administration from Auburn University in 2009 graduating with cum laude honors.
Jamie Brooks, Social Media & Public Relations Coordinator
Jamie Brooks received a Bachelor of Science in public relations and a minor in marketing from the University of North Alabama, where she graduated summa cum laude. During undergrad, Jamie served as president of Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society and the Mock Trial Association. She was also chairperson of the grant writing committee for UNA PRCA/PRSSA, a Student Government Association senator and public relations committee member, a member of the Honors Program and a writer for the university’s student newspaper. Jamie also represented UNA at the 2011 National Collegiate Honors Conference where she presented her extensive research on the benefits of social media use in an organization.
Jamie is also founder of her own non-profit community organization, Dare to Discuss: AIDS Awareness and Advocacy. Since starting Dare to Discuss, Jamie has organized numerous fundraisers and awareness events, raised over $5,000 for area AIDS organizations and has implemented her educational program in hundreds of classrooms. Jamie, through her work with Dare to Discuss, has been recognized as a recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, recipient of Daily Point of Light Award #4615 and a Miss Alabama Community Service Finalist.
Anna Ellis, Public Relations & Social Media Coordinator
Anna Ellis received her bachelor of arts in public relations and minor in English from The University of Alabama in 2012. During her time as a student, she was a member of PRSSA and also served as a writer, senior editor and marketing advisor for Platform Magazine, a student-run public relations publication at The University of Alabama. Her experience in college also included an internship at a Birmingham-based public relations firm and overseeing social media and media relations for a charitable campaign in Tuscaloosa.
Anna formerly worked in marketing at Robins & Morton, where she worked extensively with industry professionals in client relations, marketing and graphic design, as well as responsibilities including creating presentations, drafting bid packages and managing the company’s customer relationship management database.
Since moving to Birmingham in May 2012, Anna eagerly sought opportunities to become involved with organizations advancing the public interest. Quickly, she found positions on the Junior Boards of the Autism Society of Alabama and Magic Moments, both in which she serves as Public Relations Chair.
Christy Lee, Creative Director
Christy Lee is a graphic, web and multimedia designer with more than 13 years of experience in the graphic design field. She is proficient in a wide array of design software and is currently working toward broadening her expertise in user experience (UX). She enjoys everything from renderings to Photoshop, and her creativity never ceases.
Her long list of design specialties include: print, web, multimedia, creative direction, marketing, social media, digital ads, video production, budgeting and planning, pagination, newspaper and magazine layout for pre-press, film and plate printing, photography, photo toning and restoration.
She does her best creative thinking while running or hunting and finds inspiration to create things every day. Christy Lee would tell you that she loves what she does for a living, likes to be challenged in her work and works hard for the money (to paraphrase a late 80’s pop sensation). She takes pride in responding to design inquiries promptly and getting the job done creatively, professionally and timely.
In addition to designing, she also owns beautiful English Setters, which she breeds, trains and hunts. She showcases and sells her puppies on her website, www.adoggio.com.
Lena Barakat, Art Director
Lena provides inventive graphic design concepts. Her design skills cover an array of specialties, including branding, web design and advertising campaigns.
She has industry experience that is specific for healthcare providers, non-profit organizations, and law firms across the United States. She is a member of CADC and uses additional time to stretch her creativity in both fine art and photography.
She is a 2005 graduate of Birmingham’s prestigious Samford University, from which she won two first place Samford juried graphic design awards in 2005 for Photography and Content Design. Of recent, she has placed twice in the top 10 and has received multiple editor picks in Minted’s national design challenges.
Erin Adair, Senior Media Buyer
Erin Adair has been with STYLE since 2002 and serves as senior media buyer and leader of the agency’s media team. Erin has more than twelve years’ experience as a marketing account representative and media buyer and she excels at getting the most value for clients’ advertising dollars.
Erin is proficient in the planning, negotiation and placement of efficient and effective media buys for all media forms including television, radio, print media, outdoor and search and web advertising.
Erin’s media team also provides detailed post buy analyses to verify that our clients get exactly what they paid for…and more! At STYLE, we believe that we only succeed when our clients’ campaigns meet or exceed their expectations.
An Alabama native, Erin earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Auburn University.
Gus Pasisis, Director of Business Development
After you’ve spent a short time with Gus, you’ll learn he’s all about accountability, flawless execution and results. He sets the bar high, thrives on challenges and applies a “roll up the sleeves” approach to assignments big and small.
A Birmingham native, Gus came to STYLE from Chicago where he impacts agency performance through new business development, managing agency special projects, driving incremental growth with existing clients, growing client relationships and managing day-to-day agency workflow on a variety of multi-platform traditional, digital and social media projects. Prior to joining STYLE, Gus held key marketing and business development positions on the client, agency and media side with Land Rover, Group 480, ESPN / B.A.S.S. and Delta Air Lines domestic and transatlantic in-flight magazines, SKY & The Delta International Story.
In addition to his professional achievements, Gus has raised nearly $1.0M for the ESPN / B.A.S.S. alliance with the Children’s Miracle Network, the Land Rover Charitable Contributions Foundation and for Secretary of State – AL, James Bennett. Gus is actively involved in a variety of professional, business and civic organizations including the American Marketing Association and Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce.
Katie Hilyer, Public Relations & Social Media Intern
Katie is a senior at the University of Alabama (UA) double majoring in public relations and political science. She recently worked with Atlanta’s Convention and Visitors Bureau on a campaign to encourage more young professionals to visit and stay in the city. She is currently a member of PRSSA and is the Chief Justice for the College of Communications and Information Sciences Academic Honor Council, where she serves on a peer appellate and judicial body promoting academic integrity and honesty throughout the campus.
Katie serves her community by collaborating with the Wounded Warrior Project. She recently hosted a 5K run, which raised more than $2,000 and will continue to work with them on future endeavors. In 2010, she hosted the annual Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Gala at her home in Birmingham, Ala.
Other campus activities Katie is involved with include being a UA Crimsonette for the past four years as well as an active member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. In her free time, she enjoys reading and studying history. Her goal is to visit every Civil War battlefield before the age of 30. She also loves running and teaching baton lessons. She will graduate in May 2014 and continue to pursue a career in public relations.
Kirsten Ebert, Public Relations & Social Media Intern
Kirsten is currently a senior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies with a concentration in public relations and minors in marketing and history in May 2014.
She was a four-year starter and two-year captain of the women’s soccer team at UAB. She led the team to its biggest turnaround in program history and received Conference USA All-Academic Team honors her junior and senior year.
Kirsten is the Vice President of Membership for the UAB chapter of PRCA/PRSSA and is enrolled in the UAB business honors program. She also works as a student assistant in the Athletic Media Relations Department at UAB, where she assists with game-day operations, writes press releases and feature stories and updates web content.
Previously, Kirsten interned at Cox Media Group Atlanta, where she worked in the promotions department. She has also been a member of two Semi-professional soccer teams: the Atlanta Silverbacks and Alabama FC.
In her spare time, Kirsten loves spending time with her friends and family, playing basketball or enjoying the outdoors.
Julia Meyer, Public Relations & Social Media Intern
Julia is a senior marketing major at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She is currently a member of the UAB Chapter of the American Marketing Association, where she served as the Membership Coordinator from 2012-2013. She has held other leadership positions on campus including Ongoing Service Chair for the Leadership and Service Council as well as Philanthropy Coordinator for Alpha Gamma Delta.
Julia has previously worked as a marketing and advertising intern at Birmingham Magazine, where she helped organize and execute events. She then moved on to intern with KC Projects as a public relations and marketing intern. While at KC Projects, she posted daily social media updates and drafted and distributed press releases, among other things.
Outside of school and work, Julia enjoys indulging in her creative side. She loves to play with photography and work on her graphic design skills. She also enjoys exploring the city of Birmingham and being outdoors.
